CI/Faber Castell Blog Hop by Shelley Hamilton

Hi, Shelley here with my CI/Faber Castell Blog Hop Project!

For my project, I made a "Summer Vacation Journal"! Art Journals are very popular right now. This journal isn't purely for art, as I decided to put some of our vacation pictures in it. However, I was a bit more free with this album than I usually am. I did a lot of artsy stuff, a lot more writing, and was as informal as I wanted to be. It was a blast! I plan to let each one of my kids do one, as well. They love coloring, drawing, and pics of summer vacation!

I started with a plain journal, and piece of Bazaar Noir Chintz Foil Paper.

I knew that I wanted to use the new Faber-Castell Pastel Pencils in Blue/Green.

So, I began "coloring" the paper. One cool thing about these new pastels is that they come in sharpened pencil form, so you have a lot of control, and can color with great detail. Another nice thing is that they are easily sharpened. I used a common hand-held sharpener as these became dull.
The colors are amazing. I chose to color-in most of my paper pretty darkly.

There were a couple of areas, however, where I colored in very lightly, then rubbed them with my finger to make the color pale and even.

After I had chosen the colors I was going to use, and had colored for a little while, I began to look for papers to coordinate with the front of my journal. I found several pieces of Samantha Walker's "Tea Party" line that were perfect for what I wanted! After I finished using the pastel pencils, I used a spray sealer to make the page permanent(no smearing of the colors). Faber Castell also mentions the fact that you can use hair spray.

Another new product by Faber Castell are the Gelatos. This particular set has blues and purples. Beautiful!

Before adhering the colored paper to my journal, I used the Cotton Candy Gelato from this set, on the edges of the journal. The Gelatos come in what looks like a chapstick container. I just applied the Gelato directly on the journal edges. After doing this, I got a paintbrush(this set comes with one) a little bit wet with water, and went over the already painted edges. This helps smooth the color out.

To finish out the front of the album, I added small silk Eye Candy in several different places. These Swarovski crystals make all the difference!

I used the Cotton Candy and Gold Metallic Gelatos on this page.

To get this effect, I rubbed the Gelatos on a wooden stamp--blue on the top, gold on the bottom. I then put a little water on the paintbrush, and brushed the stamp with it. Then, I stamped it on the page. I repeated this process each time I stamped. I enjoyed the process and the outcome!

On this page, I used a trimmed piece from the front/back of my album, and used it on the bottom of the page. I used the Cotton Candy Gelato on a white paper flower, then blended it lightly with water and a paintbrush.

After the flower had completely dried, I went back in and added steaks of the deep yellow pastel pencil. The outcome was pretty, and I was assured that my flower would match the paper(Blue Pansies from Tea Party) that I had already picked out, as well as the cover of my album. After doing this, I sprayed the flower with Radiant Rain Shimmering Mist Luminarte in Pearl Lilac. This gave it a nice shimmering look. To further embellish this page, I made small dots on the paper with Viva Colour Brand by CI's Paint Pen in Sunny Yellow.

On this page, I used a kraft envelope that I edged with the dark blue pastel pencil and painted with the Cotton Candy Gelato. I also used the Viva Colour by CI Paint Pen again. The yellow flower sticker is from the Tea Party line.

On this page, I used the Gelatos to edge the banner pieces and the paper mat.

Here are some of the items I used the Cotton Candy Gelato on. Remember that after you rub the Gelato directly on the object, that it is a good idea to use a paintbrush and a little water to spread the color about.

Before I glued the glitter on the letters for the banner, I first colored the letters with one of the pastel pencils. I just wanted a bit of color under the glitter so the chipboard color wouldn't show through. I also wanted to glitter right away, without letting anything dry, so I chose the pastel pencils instead of the gelato. Otherwise, the the letters might have been a bit wet, and the liquid glue for the glitter wouldn't have stuck to the letter.

Thankful Heart Altered Album by Shelley Hamilton

Hi everyone! Shelley here with an altered album with Renae Lindgren's Thankful Heart fall collection!

First, I began with a chipboard book(this one is by Heart of Texas Studio). I papered this page with Thankful Heart from the same collection. I love this paper! It looks like a quilt with hearts in many of the squares. Adorable! I cut an oval in the front of the album to provide a place for the photo to show through. I used CI's Eye Candy all the way around the picture--with the high quality of these bling pieces, it fashions a nice watch with a diamond bezel! I used various colors of Maya Road twine over the dotted/dashed lines on the paper.
The title, "Days of Autumn" is from the sticker sheet, and once again, I matted it on white cardstock, then glued it to the top of the album. I used a few canvas leaves that I painted with Luminarte Twinkling H2Os to embellish around the oval mat.
The chipboard pumpkin is by Maya Road. I painted this with Luminarte Twinkling H2O in Orange Peel. I actually let it dry, and then put on an additional application a few times. Again, I let it dry, then I smeared Viva's Glass Effect Gel in Carmine all over it. I then painted over it a couple more times with the Orange Peel. With this type of application, I got a nice heavy texture with lovely shine! I used Guatamalan H2O for the stem. I let the pumpkin TOTALLY dry. Then, I used Viva Pearl Pens in Kiwi, Sunny Yellow, and Carmine to make the dots on the pumpkin. I then tied a small piece of May Arts ribbon through the hole in the stem of the pumpkin, and pop-dotted it to the front of the book.

On this page, I used the Family Tree paper, and a sticker from the sticker sheet to embellish. I also some little wooden buttons, twine, and some little die cut butterflies that I painted with Luminarte H20s!

On this page, I used a couple of different patterns from the Thankful Heart paper line-Family Tree and Fall Leaves. I also used the cute "Together" sticker from the sticker sheet from this collection. I used more twine and some ribbon on this page for embellishment. I painted the leaf with Luminarte Twinkling H2O in Sunburst. After it dried, I rubbed Viva Pearl Pen in Sunny Yellow all over the leaf--thickly! I then used Viva Glass Effect Gel in Carmine for the berries.

On this page, I used the Fall Feast paper. I also used a frame from Life's Journey Die Cut package, and two from Life as Art Die Cut package, and painted them with Luminarte H20s!

Here is another page from the album. On this page, I used another pretty sheet of paper from the Thankful Heart line. I matted the photo, then embellished simply with ribbon and a sticker from the sticker sheet. The chipboard leaf is by Maya Road, and I sprayed it with Luminarte Radiant Rain Shimmering Mist in Autumn Leaf.

On the back of the album, I used the Fall Leaves paper. I also used a Mixaparts pod filled with glass beads and a key resin shape!

Mixaparts by Shelley Hamilton

Hi, Shelley here, to share a few pods that I made for the Mixaparts necklace system!

The Mixaparts system allows you to make your own pod with whatever you want in it, and put it into the necklace shown above. You can make as many pods as you like, then pop one pod out and another one in!

Here is a picture of the necklace without the pod in it. You can see the magnetic closure device.

For this pod, I began a piece of canvas from the Canvas 3-pack---three pre-cut circles made out of canvas. I painted it with Twinkling H20 in Teal Zircon. The overlay is from the BEACH prepack. Each prepack theme includes 4 21⁄2”x 4” papers, 1 transparency (each pack yields 16 paper circles & 4 transparency circles) & 6 flat back Swarovski crystals. After using the shell transparency and crystal, I added a bit of beach sand and an actual tiny shell from the beach! This is a fun way to remember a trip!

For this pod, I used a pre-punched paper, transparency, and crystal from the Sakura prepack.

For this pod, I used the bird paper from the RockStar prepack. I also used a white resin piece from the Antique Resin pack. I placed a Swarovski crystal on top of the resin. The result was quite nice!

In this pod, I used the Edge prepack paper, a crystal, and the key resin from the Love Locket Resin pack.

For this pod, I simply used a 1" circle punch on a favorite photo. This was so easy!

Besides necklaces, the pods can be used to embellish cards and books. Just punch a 1" hole and push the pod through the hole from the bottom. The make the cutest shakers! In above pod, I used glass beads and a resin piece inside!

"PINK" Album by Shelley Hamilton

Shelley, here, with one last project for Breast Cancer Awareness month.

In this book, I put pictures of the females in my family. I used the "Beautiful You" Collection by Christine Adolph. It is such a gorgeous collection. I used many papers from the 6"x6" paper pad, along with a couple of the 12"x12" papers, also.

Throughout the book, I used the die cut shapes from the collection. Sometimes, I painted these with Luminarte Twinkling H20 in Heavenly White, and sometimes, I left them plain.

On these pages, besides using the die cut shapes, I used a bit of bling, and a corner punch. I made several of the butterflies' wings stand up from the page, making them look 3D.

On this page, I pop-dotted the flower, then glued the butterfly on top.

I matted the photos in white paper, and used a scallop punch for the edges.

On the back of the album, I embellished with a felt flower, a mini-wooden ruler, and some stick-pins. I also used our Antique Frame Transparency to add interest.

Halloween Bird House with ATCs by Shelley Hamilton

Shelley, here, with a little Halloween Bird House with ATCs for the roof!

I began with a little wooden birdhouse. I used several papers from the 6"x6" Hallow's Eve paper pad to cover the birdhouse(sides, front, back, and edges). This paper is fabulous!

I then embellished the birdhouse with die cut shapes from the Hallow's Eve Collection. I painted many of these with Luminarte H20 in Kiwi, Snapdragon, Stargazer, or Spiced Pumpkin for intense Halloween colors!
I doodled on the base of the birdhouse, and painted it Spiced Pumpkin.

I covered the two roof pieces with "Bewildered" from the 12"x12" Hallow's Eve Collection. I then used frames from the Life's Journey ATC pack. I painted these with Luminarte Twinkling H20 in Kiwi. I used several die cuts and further embellished the ATC rood with Viva Colour Pearl Pens in Sunny Yellow and Violet.
